Jack sees the characters in his world in a very satirical, and scornful view. There is only three characters who he doesn't describe in ways such as this and those are Willie, Anne, and the judge. However he does start to view the judge in a strange way after the dinner with him, his mom and the other people present. "Then there was the Young Executive, who had been a Young Executive from the day his mother gave the last push and would be a…"-page 161. This obviously shows how Jack views people in the world in which he is in, in a scornful light. A great example of his satirically views on people is the nicknames he gives his mom's husbands; the Tycoon, the Scholarly Attorney, the Count, and the Young Executive. These nicknames show how he views the people he meets in a bad light, and how he doesn't even take them seriously enough to call them by their real names in his thoughts. "I had come home. I was the thing that always came back."-page 162. Jack doesn't even view himself in a serious way, this is clear from the way he talks about himself, and the way he calls himself "little Jackie". He says that he was the "thing that always came back" showing how he thinks of himself in a bad light, how he doesn't even think of himself as a person. This is also evidenced by the way he calls himself little Jackie, who calls themselves a pet name if they're not making fun of themselves?

I agree with you that Jack is very satirical and scornful towards other people and life in general. Like when he was dining with Anne and he retorted ""If you think you are sorry, who in the hell can tell you that you aren't?" I demanded, for Little Jackie was a brass- bound Idealist, as I have stated, and he's not going to call for a plebiscite on whether he is sorry or not."(p150) Even when talking to a life time friend, Jack can not contain his anger and annoyance, which seems to strike out at every part of the book. Maybe the nickname "Little Jackie" has something to do with why he is so mad and so irritated, or maybe it really is him just making fun of himself.
